Recent Composite Artwork
I was quite bummed over some computer problems which were hampering my creative process. It's not easy when you still have a 2008 era puter running Windows XP which has had to have it's hard drive wiped clean and Windows reinstalled, then find that a lot of the Windows 98 programs for which you had installed patches to get them to run on XP, as so out of date that those patches are no longer available.
I've got my Picture Publisher running again with no problems, and my Vegas video editing program has been reinstalled, although the Sonic Forge music program can't seem to be able to be downloaded.
There is a new computer on my horizon, but until then, I'm hobbling along on my old one. And I've been inspired to create. Here is some composite artwork I've recently created for the rotating banner on my new ElectricPoetry Group on Facebook and also a stab at making some of those humorous "ecards" which seem to be so popular on the internet.
This one trumpets my latest internet movie, which can be viewed in the entry below. (hint hint.)
Th,th,that's all folks. For now, anyway. I'm recreating my entire website on wix as an experiment. HERE is the original, frozen forever in time in 2010, when I lost the Dreamweaver program I used to create it. And HERE are selected pages from the new site, created in HTML5 from last Friday night till Sunday morning. I always claimed I could create a "website in a weekend'. MFN/ppf

@adamswomanback - Carolyn, If you have a Facebook site, Please friend me there. (http://www.facebook.com/michael.f.nyiri) You might have seen I had three blog pages on the experimental site. One is from blogger, another was an embedded app, and the other was reserved for either wordpress or tumblr. On Wix comment screens don't appear on the website, so that isn't good. I need to make a decision by September. I still have to call Hostway, which provides my domain (www.allthingsmike.com) to see if they offer as good a deal as I can get from godaddy, hostgator, or wix (where is where I created the new site last weekend) Thank you for the recommendation. Mike, your comment about needing a new computer reminded me of "New computer"problems as I see them - and no make of computer seems to be exempt.I'm an Apple person (ever since the Apple II - I shifted to a Mac only reluctantly) and would, until this past year have enthusiastically recommend that you shift to a Mac - nowadays the OS is so similar to the windoze copycat that there is little difference and almost all windoze apps can be accessed/run on a modern Mac.However, Mac has apparently decided that the future is iPhones, iPads, and other social media so Mac laptops don't even have a CD/DVD drive - everything goes to and from the cloud - which, in my opinion greatly limits their usefulness as creative machines as does the newest OS, which won't even run past Mac Apps, much less windows. All the newest OS seem to be focused so that they will easily link you to a tablet or phone - lots of graphics but not very usable. You can still find a desk-top Mac or other, which will let you be creative - especially if you use an older OS- but I'm afraid you'll have to pay a lot for a really dependable one - consider a used MacBook or iBook. I've had very good experiences with two I've bought, but demand is so high that they are hard to find and fairly expensive.
@PPhilip - Philp, The problems with the hard drive disappeared when I cleaned it and re-installed the operating system. I defrag it regularly. The problem I have now is all new versions of programs I use won't accept XP as an operating system.@tychecat - Dick, I've written about how I've been considering an all in one solution for website/blog hosting and content creation called Adobe Creative Cloud. Adobe is a software company which originally created software for the Mac if memory serves. Very soon they won't even sell "software" as such. The software is on the "cloud" (I love that word, like the programs are in the sky somewhere. It's actually just on their own servers.) instead of on individual computers, and is constantly updated. Something like what McAfee and antivirus companies have been doing with subscription antivirus for a few years now. I've updated my Vegas video editing software up to the point that the new version won't run on XP. Adobe has Premiere, which is a better program, and I have access to everything they make for $49.99 a month. That's a good deal, but is a bit pricey. Plus of course, even the Adobe programs "in the cloud" won't run anything earlier than Vista. I've picked out my next computer. It's pretty cheap compared with the amounts I spent back from 1997-2008 (five different systems, if memory serves) at only $550.00 or so. I won't even use Windows 8. I chose one which I can upgrade (downgrade?) to Windows 7.In a few years, expect operating systems as we know them to disappear altogether.
@baldmike2004 - Sigh, Mike, you're right of course. I guess casual computer users will become rarer and rarer until we disappear - kind of like bloggers. I use many adobe products (flashplayer, photoshop, pdf. etc.) but I'll be damned if I'll pay a monthly fee for the privilege of using what I've already bought
