ElectricPoetry: Old Hat
“Old Hat”
Poetry by Michael F. Nyiri

6:00 a.m. pstWorn but not out
Forgotten but not gone
Aging gracefully
(as graceful as possible)
Memories fall from the band
(used to be fastened and full)
Color might not be so vibrant
still comfortable though
and still fits without a doubtHats hanging on racks all around
Where did I get that one?
Do I even remember anymore?
The hat on my head feels right
(but so did so many others in the long ago)Old hats are never tossed out
they may sit farther back on the shelf
they may hide behind other hats on the rack
they may fade they might fault
they may be old hats
but they survive
as do IPosted: February 19, 2013 6:12 AM

Poignant! Love the imagery.
And the kids know a lot of Taylor Swift’s repertoire, so I am sure I will hear something!
Sure those hats will survive and aging beautifully too, and wiser, perhaps? hehe …
How`s Kindle doing? How far did you manage to read? I would love to know what you read lately. hehe …
@SherryAngeLMysteriez - Hi Sherry. I Just finished Stephen King’s “Under the Dome” from 2009 (over 1000 pages long!) I’ve got his new book pre ordered. It’s called Joyland but isn’t coming out for four more months. Now I’m going to read some classic literature. Today I’m starting Charles Dickens’ very first novel, which I never read, called “The Pickwick Papers.” I’ve got “the complete works” in my Kindle library!
@baldmike2004 - Oh, that one I never read it yet. I am just in the mid of Salem`s Lot and I was hell scared reading it! Stephen is really the Father of all Horror Stories! He is really good at this. I got scared reading this during the night in bed when everyone sleeps already … hahaha …
Reading old classics is always good. Charles Dickons is what we read at school time and one love his works, really.
And I just ordered a book of Bram Stoker called The Lair of the White Worm, of which I never read yet. Let see how good this one can be …
Great poem. I enjoyed reading it.
I was waiting to see this here so that I can comment on it. As usual, Mike, this was beautiful
Oh, I like this one a lot — especially – “but they survive as do I”. Wonderful imagery & I can relate. ~~Blessings ‘n Cheers

Aging gratefully
Hey, Mike!!! Great poem! I like the comparison of hats to aging/hats. Kinda sad.
But, I’m trying to be a brightly colored hat…so maybe people will at least see me. Ha.
HUGS!!!
