Fight On!On the day after Christmas, I packed my new 7.2 Megapixel camera, lenses, extra batteries, and a clean 2 MB memory stick, and drove north to the campus of USC, the University of Southern California, my alma mater. I spent my four years in college at ol' SC back in the early 70s. The campus was closed for Christmas holiday, and there is a lot of construction going on, but going back after many years brought back a lot of memories, mostly good, and I shot over 300 photos, which are installed in my New Webshots folder: USC and Expostion Park. Photos from that folder and others, spotlighting Expostion Park, the Coliseum, Rose Garden and museums, will appear in future PhotoPosts here on WhenWordsCollide. First, however, I present some composite work I have created which is in the USC logos folder on Webshots.
I've uploaded the 14 photos to Xanga, and I am presenting the work here on the blog as a "slideshow". A lot of USC landmark buildings are represented, including Bovard Auditorium, Tommy Trojan, Von Kleinschmid Center, Doheney Library, and the Coliseum. I combined interesting angles, some "photoshopping" but not enough to be intrusive, and the USC logo to create "virtual postcards". I haven't done a "composite series" in a long time, and now I'm full of the ol' SC spirit. Almost makes me want to attend the next football game. (That would be against Illinois on Jan. 1st in Pasadena in a little stadium known as "The Rose Bowl".)

Hiya, Mike! Sorry to have neglected you of late, but, to be fair, I have been trying to neglect everyone equally.... The holidays are extra busy when you have a 2 year-old because everyone wants him around, which means driving to wherever we are requested.
I'm glad to hear that you have a plan for future financial freedom. This is something my husband and I have struggled with (and still struggle with). It is very smart to consolidate your loans into a smaller payment. Every dollar saved means lower interest payments as you pay down your debt. I get mad at credit companies for penalizing us further for having more debt, you know?
USC is probably a very good school (in fact, I know it is), but at our house we are a little burned by the college football season this year. We are U of Oregon fans, as this is my husband's alma mater, and were hoping for a better season than what we got toward the middle to end. What a strange season all around, though, I should say. Many upsets and the like.
I hope all continues to go well for you in the new year and please enjoy the new camera! We are buying a new one today, in fact, but I don't know what we will end up with just yet; it depends on the sales.

:goodjob: Nice work, of course I am still not converted. LSU fans have been angry at USC since three years ago when we had to share the championship title with them. Anyway, nice work on the video, but I was curious why you chose slideshow instead of Xanga? I couldn't vote for it this way, at least I don't think so. I voted for it somewhere else, but it wasn't Xanga. It must have been wonderful attending college in the 70's in Cali, I can only imagine how wild that must have been.

Mike -- Nice shots of USC -- I worked in their financial aid office in the late 70's and early 80's! ryc -- we got very close to that sunken whaling ship, and were able to look inside to see the harpoon heads that remain intact, as well as seeing the wooden stern decks right below us. I do have multiple shots of the 4 penguins walking downhill -- not video, but a fun series, as one stumbled and caused the others to fall on him -- they picked themselves up and kept right on to their goal. What fun! :sunny:

RYC on those toy cars that crashed: I remember "Kenner's Smash-Up Derby" on Saturday morning TV ads in between cartoons! I even remember the song and jingle! I would think, "ugh! What a stupid boy toy!"
I was such a priss. Yuk. Funny how that memory came whooshing back when you mentioned that car.

I would just like to comment because I cannot resist. I was very disappointed in your team's performance in the Rose Bowl. I am an Illini fan, but I felt that your team was extremely unsportsmanlike. I think that is a reflection on the school, and the coach. I am very glad I choose Illinois instead of USC.
