I will admit I don't open the door to the summer house much in the winter. It's out on the lake, which is usually frozen over this time of year.

    And pretty damn cold.

Difficult to ascertain why I felt the need to go out there...in the dark...in the cold...

But I did. I entered the URL, forgetting for a scant senior moment where in the cyberspace of my past I was heading, and almost forgetting that once familiar collection of letters and slashes and dashes which was once known pretty well as a prime destination according to the telephone book of the information highway, er, I mean the gas station on the way to heaven....er, hell, you know what I mean.

    www.zanga.com

    er

    www.xanga.com

It took a short while to remember my password, even though I think I've used only it for the fifty or so years I've been associated with the gsanga, er, I mean xanga moniker online.

I once wrote an entry asking "Who are all these Friends." Then I systematically set out to pare down the friends list by half. From 600 to 300 to 400 to 300 to 450 to 299.

    299 friends.

What happened to everyone. The zinger.com I once knew is certainly no more.

What....oh I mean xanga.com, of course. Silly me.

Where did I put my glasses?

I was writing about the winter, dark, forbidden, or unforgiving, or something literary like that.

Took a test online last week which told me I've had ADHD for a number of years, and am borderline schizophrenic. I'm surprised they didn't supply links to alleged online cures. Is it just my paranoid schizophrenia, or does it seem like a lot of alleged experts are maintaining that almost everyone on the planet is emotionally scarred, apt to snap at any moment, angry at everything, or just plain crazy. When I was a kid, I had to attend a series of special ed classes because I couldn't pronounce rhinosceros, or couldn't spell it, or some such malady. The teachers all told my mom I was hyper....like a lot of kids.

    Kids will be kids.

Now they have access to the world of misinformation and mindless one sided bickering that is the internet at the age of 3, and have their own Facebook, YouTube, Twitter site by 5.

I am planning a "comeback". I need an HD camera before I can make anymore videos.

    Paypal?

    Hmmm.

Beg the diehard stickarounds who are still blogging in the Xangasphere, (lifers like me but who haven't left yet.) shouldn't be bombarded with pleas for money from moi. I did just post I bought a new car. Might sound a bit hypocritical.

    I will say that

This has been a "drunktextblog" by Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool

    With 299 friends left.

Who will  be the Last Gungan Standing.

    Er,

    What's that?

    I mean Last Xangan Standing.

    ?

There must be one of those ubiquitous contests about that on here. If only I had the time, and had donned an overcoat. The chill is really getting to these old brittle bones.

Well, not too brittle. I'm fairly healthy, actually.

    Happy New Year.

For those who might comment. "I see you're posting again." I think we can get rid of the word "again." I've often written in these many, many, many, many, many online pages...I will post Xanga blog entries randomly. I won't visit much, nor write those monumental, witty, intelligent, tolerant, and loving comments I'm known for in these parts, if for anything else, time will tell. I feel like a post, a post will come. I'm planning to add an RSS feed to my main website when I resurrect it, sometime later this year. Then I'll just post a blog element on www.allthingsmike.com.

299 Friends. Down from over 400, if memory serves, almost overnight.

I turn to close the door, bundle my coat and shawl around me tightly, and brace myself for the icy winds. I honestly don't know exactly when I'll be back, but chances are the leaves will be turning green and the birds will have returned to their tree choirs with gusto.

  • Ha ha...glad you are writing AGAIN!!! Now we will be missing those long witty entries of yours....I suppose we will have to look in randomly to see if Mike posted anything... Still around and still reading your blogs ...even if it means no return visits...that's life hey.

  • Well, I'll say it.  I'm glad you're posting again.  Even if the numbers here have dwindled, there are a few here who remain to connect with the friends who also remain.  If the ten diehard xanga friends I have here left to go somewhere else, then I guess I'd go as well.  I'm still waiting for a decent xanga mobile app.
    Mike, stick around, OK?

  • Has it been a cold year out there?  We've had an unusually warm winter, without major snow yet.

  • a 'drunktextblog' - an interesting concept, will you remember it in the morning? it seems to me this life thing is cyclical - with a repetition of hi's and low's - so if people are feeling xanga is at a low - i'd offer there's far less drama and it's actually a good time to meet new faces...

  • Whatever works for you.  We'll continue to blog here, so we'll be around if you want to start blogging more consistently here.  HD camera's aren't too expensive nowadays, so I'm sure you will have one in no time.

  • Good to see you, Mike, on the occasional days when you post.

  • @Zeal4living - Jurgens, almost forgot about the 'reply' feature. Thank you for being such a good longtime/longdistance friend. I do attempt to make forays to the sites of longtime readers such as yourself, although I haven't visited you in quite some time. Expect a visit soon

@gottobereal64 - Gretchen, I always love to hear from you. I see frequent "likes" etc pop up on my also barely used Facebook page from time to time as well. Your visits always elicit a smile.

@Ro_ad808 - Michael, It has been incredibly cold (Temperate California Cold, not to be confused with the real thing, of course) However, this is metaphorical writing, and the "summer house" which I haven't visited much this past winter is, of course, Zengi, er, Xanga.

@xplorrn - Xplorrn, It took me till mid day to remember that I posted something on Xanga, but that could be the early onset Alzheimer's for all I know.

@Roadlesstaken - Alex, Xanga will never be inactive as long as you're still around. I do take time to lurk around, er, I mean, visit your blog from time to time, and I'm always amazed at your talents, energy, comradeship, and natural optimistic nature as portrayed in the pages of your fantastic blog. "Not too expensive" is relative, of course. I'm still using a camcorder that uses tape. I am going to experiment with the picture quality settings in my Vegas software to see if I can attain "HD like quality" from early digital video. I'd really like one of those 3D cameras ($1400.00 MSRP) with two lenses. (The little swingout LCD screen is in 3D without having to use glasses!) However, Sony just introduced a line of videocams that have projectors in them. Aim, Shoot, Capture, and display on the nearest blank wall! (I'm going through withdrawals, cause CES is happening in Vegas right now and I attended on a yearly basis back in the late 90s/early 00s.

@slmret - Dear Janet, I'm way past due for a visit to see what amazing photos you've taken in the past half year or so. My how time flies.

  • @baldmike2004 - the important thing is you did in fact remember - and there are certainly friends here who are thrilled to see you pounding the keys so to speak - and when 'you've got the time we got the ears... '

  • Hey, nice to see you post again :) lol

But seriously, I am glad to see you post something. I like reading your blog. And I hope the holidays were good for you.

  • Dear Mike,

Well... I have you to think (I mean thank) for my post on Apocalypse and Diasaster is still being viewed around the world on a daily basis.  I have turned into the mother earth type!  Come visit my environmental blog sometime!  You know.... if you get bored or something.   I still love you and will be around... unless I have a foot stuck up some doctor's butt.

  • hey, i was wondering where you went! hadn't seen your classic signature on comments around here in a while! don't become just another number down

  • Not all xanga's gone away.  Just new people have moved in.  Normal neighborhood kind of stuff.  Except sometimes it changes the whole feel and all you have is your little house that stays the same.

  • Oh Mike, would you take it wrong if I said "I love you'!

You have such an incredible and unique voice. I've missed your entries. Dare I say, I've missed Ganxan.... hmmm. And I'm not the only one. I have been going through my friend list. I've seen a few that were trying to come back. It's always hard blogging into a void and trying to breathe life into something so still. I wonder if we all pulled together, if we could resurrect that Phoenix Anxnag once was. Different, but as vibrant and alive as it used to be? Perhaps start a new site for us oldies but goodies. You have the infinite skills and fiery passion, you could be our Captain and get us all us into one place... for at least a reunion party? Some ideas anyway.

And can I relate to forgotten passwords to what's this sites name? ::laughs:: Very witty you are! In any case, I've so missed you Mike. I'm sending you warm hugs. Much Love and Light to you, Barbi

  • PS I just now, as I scrolled up, noticed the many faces of you in your banner, upper left corner. I sat there watching it, so many of those faces I remember seeing almost daily long ago. That is wickedly and totally cool how you did that!!!! You always do something so unique!
