    It's time for Internet Island Topic Post  #16. The last topic generated 32 entries. I was really pleased with the turnout. We also picked up a few new members.     16.01: Secrets


    A lot of secrets are shattered in the blogging community, thanks to the relative anonymity of the process. Since we can be anything we want to be in cyberspace, it is a perfect place to share secrets great and small. Have you ever shared a secret with your internet brethern, or would you like to do so now?



    16.02: Confessions


    "Everybody has a confession". I just heard that line in a movie the other day. "We don't need a Father Confessor to admit that there might be something buried deep in our pasts that we would like to get out in the open. " I frequently use my blog and the writing process in order to clear the skeletons in my closet. Do you do the same? Confess.



    16.03: Opinions


    In the world news :"Israeli air strike kills 54 civilians" QANA, Lebanon (Reuters) - An Israeli air strike killed 54 civilians, including 37 children, on Sunday, prompting Lebanon to tell U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice she was unwelcome in Beirut and fuelling world pressure for a ceasefire." The governments of Britain and the United States until now have not called for a cease fire unless Hezbollah disarms unilaterally, giving the Middle East the impression that Britain and the U.S. are backing the Israeli attacks on the country of Lebanon, where the terrorist radical Islamic organization of Hezbollah is based. What do you think of America and Britain's stubborn inability to agree to an immeditate ceasefire and peaceful solution? Rice did agree this morning that a ceasefire is necessary. What is your overall impressions of the Middle East conflict?



    16.04: Comfort


    The present heat wave has killed over 130 people in the state of California, more than died in either the Northridge Earthquake or the Fires of 2003. It's pretty hot out here, and it doesn't even seem to cool down at night. The entire Northern Hemisphere seems to be suffering from some form of global warming. What are you doing to combat the harsh weather conditions? How do you cool down, or otherwise try to find comfort this "long hot summer"?

    EDIT: Internet Islander Juliet (SunnyCalifornia) gave birth to a 7lb 1oz baby girl named Issabella at 12:24 am Saturday morning. Both mother and daughter are doing well, and Juliet will be hopefully posting some photos sometime soon!

  • Hi Mike, Interesting topics...I am not into secrets and confessions...but might be offer a vey uniformed opinion on the Middle East conflict....will let you know when my entry is up.

    Oh, I do not know if you know about Xanga's new Boost functionality...I played around with it and did a bit of Island PR work by boosting this Internet Island topic. Now we just need all the Islanders to rate this entry as high!!

    You are very nice...
    I thought that maybe a way of thank you would be to "answer your call"!
    So here are my "Secrets, Confessions, Opinions and Comfort"! I truly hope not to disappoint you...
    The post it's announced atIsabelDavid / What a Wonderful World and really is at What a Wonderful Private World, as it's rather... private... and I decided to protect me a bit lately...
    Another reason is that I have 10 times more subscribers at IsabelDavid than in my Private World...
    I'm afraid my private life is too boring... In advertising world people says that what sells better are horses, children and naked girls... Definitely, I have a lack of the last item!

    And they did that very early in time as they knew it.
    And they didn't do this until they discovered the turn of the seasons and thought up the existence of God to explain them. "

    Actually, I think it is older than the turning of the seasons. Earliest humans didn’t understand the nature of sex and childbirth, Women, who could magically create human life and bring it forth from their own bodies became Goddesses and ruled society for a long time before those less magical men were allowed equal rights. These women’s magic was so powerful that sex became a sacred rite, rituals were created around it, and in the Spring people cavorted in the fields with "faith" in the sexual magic of the woman to make the crops grow. (Ahhh, for the good ol’ days)

    "Basically faith is pretending."

    Of course, and some of it is better than SciFi.

    "Cunieform tablets were inscribed and archived."

    I recently learned that the creator of Cunieform writing was a priestess at a goddess temple in sumer. She created it as a method to track agricultural records. She was later declared a Goddess.

    "Mankind knew by now he was doomed, and he savored popular entertainment"

    I’ve come to the opinion that most people seek out experiences that will numb their emotions and their minds. They do live lives of quiet desperation and feel quite helpless to do anything about it. If you've ever visited very many types of churches, you'll come to realize that their "entertainment value" also explains a lot of their existences.
