Here are some more photos from the Catalina Island folders on my Webshots Gallery.
The Queen Mary (in the background) has been moored in the Long Beach Harbor (from where the boat for Catalina has a landing) since 1967. Recently, the Carnival Cruise line made a departure terminal out of the dome which used to house the Spruce Goose. The large new cruise ships look more like hotels plopped in the water rather than ships.
Avalon Bay in Catalina, showing some of the boats in the marina, which doesn't have slips, only "buoys", and some of the buildings on shore. In order to disembark from your boat, if you have one moored in the harbor, you have to have a dinghy or use the water taxi service.
Right by the bay, there is a hillside completely covered with homes and apartments, to give a nice view of the harbor. This is the first place the tourists see, as this was shot while the Catalina Express boat was pulling into it's slip.
Here I am, posing alongside one of the papier mache eagles which dot the island. Local artists paint the eagles (and Catalina Bison, too) and they are featured everywhere you go.
Speaking of bison, here's a bison head above the fireplace in the main dining area of the Catalina Airport terminal located in the "Airport in the Sky".
The Wrigley family (of chewing gum fame) planted lots of eucalyptus trees along the side of the road leading up to their mansion, so that Mr. Wrigley's car wouldn't drive over the side of the mountain at night. Of course there are no streetlights outside of town.
A view from one of the souvenier shops. I expected the souveniers to be quite expensive, but they were actually quite reasonable. I got three refrigerator magnets for about $2.50 each, and have paid upwards of $6.75 in other places (like Disneyland, for instance.)
The Avalon Casino building, now a theater and museum, but a famous dance hall in the 30s and 40s, shot from the middle of the bay. I walked all over the town of Avalon, and my left leg (with my hip replacement) has been bothering me greatly since the trip, but pain is a small price to pay for the experience of seeing Catalina for the first time.
Lastly, this is just a photo of a staircase, which I took after waiting for my friend Liz to get some money out of an ATM. I liked the iron gate and the red clay steps.

Just watched "The Aviator" and told my son that I saw the 'Spruse Goose' in the dome at LB. Great photos, Mike! I also liked your poetry award choice from your previous post. Maureen is an obvious favorite of mine also! You live in a very photogenic area. Here in Florida, we have some nice nature preserves that artificially recreate the landscape that has been totally destroyed by overdevelopment but most of the urban areas themselves are not very nice unless they are predominantly owned by the extremely wealthy. Maureen and I just took a digital photography class over the weekend at one of our nature preserves which was a lot of fun. However, we were totally out gunned by the other members of the class that all had digital SLR cameras with foot-long macro lenses. Even the two kids, both around 10 years old, that came along had better, fancier cameras then we did. Never the less, Maureen and I were both of the opinion that we took better photos then the instructor showed in his slide show at the beginning of the class. Your photos and subject matter are great! I love the bright water landscapes (waterscapes?). They look so cheerful and inviting. You really have a good eye for photography. Hopefully you have found a good use for your other eye also! :p

I have had a great time trying to put my CD together but it has been a huge amount of work. Actually, the final mixing and balancing wasn't much fun at all. But it is done and I have sent my master disc to CafePress.com where I can have professional CD's (not CD-R's, real actual CD's that will play in any player) made for a reasonable price. You pointed out a few things that were a big help and those problems have all been fixed. On Monday (7/25) I posted updated, corrected versions of my first two songs on the CD and updated my master CD before sending it in because of your comments. Thanks!
