Back on Feb. 14th (and I’ll admit it was a strange day to post an entry not about Valentine’s Day, but I’d already done my Valentine’s post earlier) I posted an entry which directed my readers to my latest “weekend website” with the theme: ROBOTS.
This was even before the computer animated film “Robots” came out, and my website has nothing in common or to do with that film, which I haven’t even seen. My website, with six complete sections, detailing the history of robots both real and in literature and cultural history, has only received one guestbook entry, and I have gained quite a few Xanga subscribers since I first “advertised” the website, which has been the main feature on AllThingsMike for the past two months.
I am about to redesign the main page of AllThingsMike again, and I know that a lot of folks who visit WhenWordsCollide (the blog you are now reading) might not even know of the existence of AllThingsMike or the other websites yet, so I am posting another “robots” themed entry today before changing the main page to ATM, which will feature some other aspect of the AllThingsMike Universe of Websites.
If you have the time and have not been able to or haven’t seen the “Robots” website, please hop on over there and marvel at how much work I can put into a website in only a weekend. (Granted, the actual construction took one weekend. The research took about a week before I actually put the site online.)
The first section, “Robots in the Real World” details the history of robotics. The second section, “Robots On Parade in Pop Culture”, showsthe many robots with which we are familiar through exposure on television and in the movies. The third section, “Robots in Literature” lists the many instances in which robots show up in poems, plays, novels and short stories throughout history. The fourth section tells the story of “The Honda “Asimo” robot, who is the inspiration for this website. Section Five is the showcase for the robotic computer “Composited Artwork of Michael F. Nyiri”, some of which I have inserted into this blog entry. Lastly, in another art tribute in the sixth section, artist Hajime Sorayama, whose sexy images of very sleek silver female robots as well as more conventional pinup art. is profiled. Visit the world of ROBOTS, exclusively at the Cultural Blender on AllThingsMike.
I won’t go into anymore of the content from the website in this entry, as I did when I put the entry online Feb. 14th. (You will notice that I always liberally pepper my entries with links to exactly which entries/sites I am talking about.)
The website will not go “bye bye” but the image announcement on the main page of AllThingsMike will disappear after this weekend. So here’s a chance, for those who have not yet visited, and might be interested, please check out ROBOTS. For those who are just waiting for the next poetry or photopost, or Universal Blog entry, remember that Poetry is taken from the ElectricPoetry website. Photos are on the Webshots Gallery, and the Universal Blog is located here. Most every thing on WhenWordsCollide usually comes from somewhere in the AllThingsMike Webhub. It’s a VERY large website, chock full of art, photos, essays, internet movies, and poetry, all created by yours truly. It is my “electronic experiment in art” and has been serving the public, AD FREE, since 1999.
A lot of “work” (but it’s really a pleasure to create my pages) goes into the site, and this blog is just the “tip of the iceberg” as it were. If you haven’t visited ROBOTS, and have a few minutes (or even hours) to spare. Then hit the link, kids, and have some fun. My apologies to any readers who will find this entry redundant because they have already vistited the site and think I might be repeating myself. I’ll put up another entry tomorrow morning with a completely different subject.
(A short note about the CAT HUNTING article yesterday. Yes, it is true, albeit not every word. When I post a “news article” on this blog, I copy/paste an article from either my Reuters, AP, or AFP wire, and then I “embellish the story” for humorous purposes. I create all the composite imagery through websearches, and mix some of my own photos in the composites. As far as the actual story, there was a proposal made to allow for hunting of feral cats in Wisconsin. There is not a concerted effort by any kitty cats to fight back, however, and all the quotes attributed to the cats are my own imaginative asides. The quotes attributed to the Governor and to the pet store owner are true. This is similar to the article I posted about Michael Jackson last week. Yes, Michael Jackson is on trial, no the monkey didn’t testify. Just thought I’d take this opportunity to clear this up. If we can’t laugh at the craziness that occurs in this world from time to time, then we’re just going to get depressed, and life is far too short to be depressed all the time. MFN)

Hi Mike! I read ATM on occasion and enjoy it.
More interesting to me … about the cats – although I love Cats I eat veal, lamb, cow, pig, chicken, fish and lots of others – so it doesn’t really freak me out that other cultures harvest animals we consider pets. As long as they keep their freaking hands off mine.
Rick is broody today – I was hoping meds and therapy would begin to show a difference… funny it only melts me down about once a year. I think love is a choice like every single other thing we do.
So.. sounds like a weekend of programming stuff for you – wish I knew how to do that – I think I have adult ADD so I can’t sit still long enough to learn.
Thanks so much for the support and kind words!
RYC: Alexa looks like me? Hm…it’s Rosie who is my little image. LOL Did you mean her? Actually, having either one of those little dolls compared to me would be an honor. And yes…the song…when Steve and I saw “Closer”, it was the most wonderful movie we’d ever hated…or the awfulest movie we’d ever loved, we couldn’t decide. One of those I wouldn’t have called a great movie right afterward, but I sure did come right home and seek out that song, then listen to it at least 4,709, 239 times while reliving the loveliness and romance of sitting at the theater with my husband watching the movie. It was tragic, yet unforgettable. The song gets me every time. And to think it is now out on DVD…
I love your visits to my blog, my friend. You always say the most interesting things. Miss you.
Mike,
I haven’t checked out the Robots section of your site yet, but I was not aware you covered it to such an extent. I’m just waiting for the day when they make a robot that will do the dishes and clean the bathroom – that would be a dream come true.
I must say though, that I do appreciate your ad free sites and all the content that you have up on there. When I’m all caught up on Xanga I tend to go over AllThingsMike and look around, yet I have not signed the guestbook – I must write myself a note to remember that.
Love & Friendship,
Liz
I was so distraught about the cat hunting.
I need to go hug my babies now…Then I’ll venture into the robot realm.
That WAS your shortest comment ever!
It was perfect though.
Interesting thing…in Japan they developed a robot with a really sophisticated AI. It could actually “behave” dynamically with its environment and different people it comes into contact with. For instance, the scientist that developed it had it set up as a receptionist and it was greeting people with a generic friendly greeting when the scientist went up to it and scolded it: “That is wrong, dummy!” The robot then got “angry” and replied: “I’m not a dummy!” O_O Now, THAT’s just spooky. Keep it copasetic. Peace.
I love your site! :goodjob:
RYC: I finally did see your comment. I’m glad you took the time to visit and I hope you do feel free to come visit again anytime! Looking forward to corresponding. :sunny:
“You’re riding shotgun in my soul…” how romantic!
