PhotoPost: Cloudscapes
Here are some assorted cloudscapes taken this past Sunday morning, after another one of our incessant rainstorms had passed. I never get tired of taking photos of the moon or of cloudscapes. (Cloudscapes have been the background images on AllThingsMike since the very beginning in 1999.)
There isn't much to "caption" with these shots. They were all taken within a half hour from vantage points along the Pacific Coast Highway in the Lomita/Torrance area where I live.
I believe I had the wide angle lens on for all the photos in this series, the better to get a wider view of the sky. On some of these I am editing out power lines, etc, like in the bottom left corner here, for my webshots albums, but these are "as photographed".
This one is my favorite, with the sun peeking through. On Sunday, after taking these, I opened my image editing program, and created a fantastic composite using this photo, but sadly, my puter experienced memory overload, and I "lost" the composite image when a crash occured.
It was actually difficult to find open areas along the highway in which to take uncluttered views, sans power lines, etc. That's the awful part of living in an urban area when you want to photograph nature, even it it's straight up in the air. At times, I'll drive up "on the hill" in Palos Verdes, to get a better shot, but by then the cloudscape I want to photograph has already "disappeared" into a less fantastic shot. I wanted to get some cloudscapes yesterday as well, but didn't take the camera to work, and was too tired after getting home, and didn't go out again.
(NOTE: I don't know why you can't click on these images to get the full size ones and don't have the time right now to go into HTML and tweak the code, esp. since I uploaded these to the Xanga server instead of my own.)

Clouds from after the rains?? Well, you hit a few on the awards but it looks like "Million Dollar Baby" was just too much for the Aviator. I've seen both of them and it is a very difficult call. Cheers

Your favorite is also my favorite. I love the clouds. When we take the boys to school in the mornings, we are all very quiet, very reflective, and we all look at the clouds................
Great cloud shots, those are always hard to capture.
And I did better than you on my Oscar picks! I should have put my 10 bucks in! Now my Fantasy Survivor is another story.......
Nice photos, Michael. I especially like the third one down (second to last) where the sun is just about to come out from behind the clouds. It has the best light/dark contrasts although the last photo is also pretty darn cool! The last one works well because it has the stuff on the ground around it. These are just my opinions and I am by far and expert on photography. Have a great day!

These are just lovely. The one with the sun is my favorite as well. I'm always inspired by the sun burning off clouds. It makes me remember all the possibilities of life.

Hey! Maybe I will use some of these cloud photos when we study clouds in a few weeks. They are good examples.
Beautiful pictures. Showing the power lines and street lights sort of illustrates how "earthbound" we all are and our futile attempts to better creation.

I always check the clouds, they're like my tea leaves. I wrote a poem about clouds once. Great photos.
Beautiful cloud shots. I love photographing clouds...but you probably knew that!

Thank you, I'm glad you read my stuff. Indeed, I've had a spew of angsty poetry as of late...most unfortunate. Ah well. every day is remebered with a poem, and some days are just fuckin angsty as anything.
