  • Why Don’t They Go After Real Terrorists Department:

Ex-Pop Star Cat Stevens Deported from U.S.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former pop singer Cat Stevens, a Muslim, was deported to Britain on Wednesday after U.S. officials said his activities could be “linked to terrorism” and his name was put on a U.S. no-fly list.
Arab-Americans and Muslims in Britain voiced outrage over the treatment of Stevens, who changed his name to Yusuf Islam when he shelved his singing and songwriting career and became a Muslim almost three decades ago. He was seen being escorted by U.S. security officials onto a United Airlines flight at Dulles International Airport bound for London’s Heathrow Airport on Wednesday evening. Homeland Security spokesman Brian Doyle said Islam’s Washington D.C.-bound plane was diverted on Tuesday to Bangor, Maine, after his name turned up on U.S. lists of suspected terrorists. He was questioned by officials and then taken to Boston to catch a connecting flight in Washington for London.

“Now I’ve been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun
Oh, I’ve been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it’s going to come
Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a Peace Train
Oh Peace Train, take this country, come take me home again.”

Every so often I see something in the news that gets my blood a boiling, and makes me question, in an age of demented reason, why has this happened? Aren’t there enough real terrorists in this world, that we have to detain and deport peace loving ex-pop stars? People got upset when Cat became Yusuf and converted to the Islamic faith. When I read something like this bit of news, I wonder if the Bush Crusade Against Islam isn’t just that, a damn Crusade. The Crusades in the early part of the last Millennium didn’t do any thing positive except drive a rift through the city of Jerusalem that is still felt VERY strongly today.

NEW YORK (AFP) – US Secretary of State Colin Powell defended a US decision to deny entry to British singer Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens.

LONDON, Sept. 23 – Yusuf Islam, the British singer once known as Cat Stevens, returned to London on Thursday after being barred from entering the United States, saying he was “totally shocked” that American officials considered him a potential terrorist threat.

“Now I’ve been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is, Why must we go on hating, why can’t we live in bliss?”

    WHY INDEED?

  • totally in shock!!!!
    Dear mike…if we lived in bliss…Bush wouldn’t have a job …

    Love to you…from Holland!!!!!!!!

  • Mike- Si, era para mi esposo, mi amor.
    Gracias. ~ Isa

  • Ditto. Surreal almost, isn’t it?
It’s hard to believe this isn’t about religion…why? Because the only similarity between Cat and real terrorists IS his religious preference. So what happened to separation of church and state then? He IS afterall an American citizen- doesn’t that ideology apply to him then? So this means because he is not a “Christian” American citizen, he is suspect of terror? Where do they get the justification for doing this from any standpoint…religiously speaking it doesn’t hold up, constitutionally speaking it doesn’t hold up, or ethically and morally.
So we don’t protect our own citizens anymore if they happen to choose an alternate belief system? And you’re right! Cat is a peace loving man. All of the proceeds from his new CD are going to children in Iraq. Um..that would be the very children that Bush and his posse are killing now. So who should be on the terrorist list I ask? Imagine a world where we support a man who is openly terrorizing and we condemn a man who stands for peace. What’s next, we are going to start arresting missionaries?
What a world that would be! I am so glad that I don’t have to live in a world such as that (sarcasm and cynicism). A world that says, if you CHOOSE differently..you can’t come home. Does that mean CHOICE is gone? Does that mean the only CHOICES we really have are the ones that lie within the realm of what the government dictates? And if so, are we really a dictatorship and the idea of FREEDOM that they sell us every single day is a myth? OBVIOUSLY Mike, my blood is boiling too. I traveled to Morocco in 2001. I hope they let me back in here to see my children if i ever decide to go back for a visit…

  • Hi Mike!

Awwww, thank you so much for your VERY kind words at my Xanga home!  I really appreciate it!!! :)

You are sooo sweet!  All I did like that was years and years ago, and I haven’t modeled anything in pageants in years and years now, and I live like a hermit basically nowadays.

Oh, I’m certainly not a tomboy anymore either. :) That phase was for just a little while during my childhood years.

Thank you again so much for your kind words!  You really were VERY, very kind, and I’m glad that you think those things about me.  :)

Hope you have a great weekend!

HUGS!!!  Shara  P.S.  I would mention more about the political topic, but I get SO upset whenever I talk about politics that I’ve had to try not to think about it as much nowadays cause I don’t wanna cause myself to have a heart attack from getting so upset like I usually do over things concerning politics!:(  Thanks again, Mike!!

  • Oh Mike…this was the subject of great discussion on my turf at work this day…It is unbelievable to most of us and I myself was not in shock as some that this happened in our country!

  • you know, i think America would be more than happy to live in peace.  however our enemies don’t subscribe to that point of view.  and on sept 11th they attacked our sovereignty as a nation, and that my friend just won’t fly.  jack

  • Hey Mike!

Just stopping by again really quick!  Now, see there,  I’ve stopped by twice already even on the same post!   Oh, yeah!:spinning:

    HUGS!!

    Shara

  • The words ‘crusade’ and ‘jihad’ have exactly the same meaning despite one being associated with Christianity and the other with Islam. So, what do you think of Bush’s Terrorism Jihad?
