  • L.A. Dreams

A photo/video slideshow showcasing downtown Los Angeles, scored to a mashup of L.A. themed songs and groups. In December of 2006 I published San Diego Dreams on YouTube, and the video is my most popular vid on the service, with over 80 comments. I've been wanting to put together an homage to the city in which I live, L.A., since I only visited San Diego for a weekend. L.A. Dreams is my "video response" to my own San Diego Dreams. Using video footage along with hundreds of photos culled from over four years of photographing the city in earnest, the editing took over two weeks. I want to show that L.A. is a beautiful city, with a mix of different styles of architecture. They say "nobody walks in L.A. Well, this video was taken during many walking tours of downtown. If you would like to see some of these photos up close, most of them can be found in various "L.A." folders in my Webshots Gallery

Wow that was really neat- it's alot liike I rmemeber it but of course I lived on the coast and grew up in Hawthorne then Hermosa Beach.

We would go to L.A. for our uniforms once a year and then drive thru to get to the grandparents in Rosemead and the fastest way was right thru L.A. I guess. This was in the 1950's.

I would love to have lived there right after the WW2 like my parents did.

I am always intrigued by this place.  I will probably never see it in person for myself, so this is the best way I will ever view it!  The architecture is outrageous, which is the point I guess.  I am going to have to play it again and puase the video on some of the images that I would like alonger view of.

I like the water cascade between the steps - what a neat idea!

That shot through the open truck doors was brilliant!

I had no idea there were that many L.A. themed songs by the way, but I surprised to know that most of them sounded familiar.

Thanks, Mike, for this comprehensive look at a city from one who is very well-acquanted with it.

I guess Little Tokoyo and Chinatown will be saved for later? The place is changing, I barely recognized Staples center area yesterday when I went thru there....

I had to fix a televison system yesterday on Grand Street on the 21st floor. The views up there is amazing looking down on the 110 freeway. Unfortunately if you have no connections it is hard to get to such places for the view.

Yes you did a small snapshot of those less fortunate too. Even that area is undergoing change.

The famous ramp into the Los Angeles River that they use for car chases was glimpsed also in your video, in fact a lot of people will suffer from deja vu because lots of parts of Los Angeles is used for movies and commercials.
