    "Upending Expectation Irrational"
    Poetry by Michael F. Nyiri
    3/10/09 6:26 a.m. pdt

    Experience elation in error
Even darkness comes to rest at the foot of immediacy
    Catalog life and settle back
Slide the meter closed and open up to others

What was that sound I can't recognize?
Where is that memory I misplaced?
Is recognition what I finally realize?
Did I run too fast and yet still lose the race?

    Experience disaster without borders
Even light breaks over the final doorstep of doom
    Turn the pages of proficiency
End the book on a light note and retire

Words don't flow as from the waterpipe of wellness
    anymore
Thoughts stay racked in the brain, unsettled and unwary
Positive outcomes battle with weary dillemmas
And nobody seems to win or lose

    I've lost youth and innocence
    I've gained experience and shame
I've written much but to what end?
The typewriter of my soul has a broken carriage
and the computers of youth's yearnings
slowly drain their hard drives of memory

    Experience elation with fervor
Darkness and light, positve battling weary
Close the door and turn out the light
Rise with the sun and smile

Everything is going to be all right
    Eventually
    Even now
As the dampened sounds of uncertainty chime forever

    "Love Notes and Reason"
    Poetry by Michael F. Nyiri
    3/10/09 6:40 a.m. pdt

    mindphotos snapped seemingly aeons ago
a little tear at this corner and a fold there at the top
    faded memories rush rattling reasonable
that gal from highschool is a grandma can't believe it
    electric effervescence
bubbling up from deep inside the soul
    capture clandestine convocations
    from the past
    envelopes with yellowed adhesive
which fails to stick to the story
    from inside fall pages signed
"love," and filled with missed opportunity

    still bright dancing greeting cards
    announcing inert holidays
    and damaged relationships unheeded
    forgotten dalliance
can't often remember the reason for the sentiment
    saving the slightly misbegoten memories
    and waiting for reason to
toss them in the trashbin along with youth

old girlfriends smile from their wallet photos
the wrinkles don't show up with their yesterdays
    careworn histories recited rote
as each inert holiday passes by again

    grandbabies giggle at the inconsistencies
    all innocence beaming hopefully

BEHIND THE POETRY: As usual I sit down at the computer, open the notepad program, and attempt to pen a couple of new poems. Inspiration is in the form of my recent trip down memory lane as I created what I call "speedbooks" or "express scrapbooks" of lots of old pages from my past, found in countless boxes stored in my old garage, after I moved. I separated all these old memories by decade, and then placed them in sheet protectors bound in notebooks, which now occupy shelving below the curio cabinets in my new place. I can't get over the fact that I'm now poised on a new adventure in life, but have assessed a lot of the life I've lived, while going over the notebooks and memorials to my life. The first poem expresses the mix of elation and depression inherent in finding, once again, that I'm just getting older, and the second poem specifically addresses the old love letters I came across as I unpacked. • Those are wonderful, well written poems. Who know someday you will gather all those notebooks and scrapbooks together and compile them into a biography or memoirs of your own.

  • Wonderful words.  I relate to these  as age has come and stolen my memories and my abilities and I wonder where it all went.

  • I knew I'd see more poetry from you. You have a lot of writing talent and should think of publishing your work

  • I loved this The second one was just filled with emotions.

I am such a dodo! How are you feeling now, hun? I hope that with your moving and everything you didn't hurt yourself. Keeping you in my prayers, me dearest Poet

  • These 2 poems reflect the feelings of "changing/lost times" so well.  They sound kind of dark but yet the tone is light at the same time.  Nice!

  • One problem with mobile home parks is that they all look the same...

Registering your memories and bidding your time,
fast approaching deadlines now past and contemplation unleased...

To New Mobile Mike a new era,
A new page, a new spurt, a new home and a new addition to the chapter of
    electric poetry....

  • I stopped by for a visit from Momarazzi's new site. I enjoyed the poetry, and man I really hate moving. You managed very well from what I see. Congrats on your new home, and hope the hip replacement goes smoothly. I know it will make a big difference for you once it's all over with!
    bless ya

  • Wonderful Poetry!

  • Mike,

I liked both poems. I can relate to both in many ways. We really do start looking back at this age, don't we? But the best part of the first poem, my favorite of both, was the final verse:

Everything is going to be all right
    Eventually
    Even now
As the dampened sounds of uncertainty chime forever

That reflects very much how I feel. I can look back and see all the could've, would've, should'ves, but it's all done and unchangeable now. When we look forward, even into uncertainty, (as all the future is), hope gives us the excitement and courage to continue.

The packing and unpacking drew the memories, but the new house helped unfold the hope. I was delighted to see the photos in your posts, and will go look at the photoblog, too. I love looking at houses and how people inject their personalities. I hope we'll see more as you add your finishing touches to things.
