  • My "Fishcan" "Ratings"

It's Blog Index time again !

At the end of every year I begin to index the last year's blog entries. The list for 2004 and 2005 is underneath the heading "Xanga: Interesting Posts From the Past" in the left hand sidebar. Thanks to "Xanga Tags" I am also going slowly but surely through some older posts and adding "tags" to them, so that a visitor can "tag" ElectricPoetry, for instance, and get a list of the poetry posts, or "MikeVideo" and get a list of the internet movie posts. Blogring members interested in past entries could click on "Socrates Cafe", "Featured Grownups", or "Internet Island" and get a list of entries I've written on that subject. I'll probably still update the index for this year, but hopefully all of 2007's entries will be 'tagged". With this entry, as in the past, I am announcing the fact that I have an index, and I'm going to add some interesting "lists" which I have culled from the Fishcan Tracker ratings. I've been online with a personal website since the turn of the century (somehow it seems neat to write it that way now) and I've used lots of hit counters and services. I think, for Xanga tracking at least, Fishcan is best by far. There are two lists below, each with links. I will discuss the importance of each list to me under the heading for each list.

Top 20 visitors by visit amounts

A lot of blogs frequently list their favorite reads. I want to show you a list of my favorite "readers". Well, I shouldn't say favorites, although the Fishcan "lists" them in order of hits to my blog. If I ever doubt who I should visit when I'm reciprocating to bloggers on the internet, I frequently check this "list" which shows the Xangans who have visited me the most, by total amount of visits. I use this to show me who is dropping by that I might have not visited in a while. The list tracks 200 entries at all times. Behind each visitor below, I have listed their given name as I know them. I always like to use a "given name" of some sort, sometimes it might not be your real name, for use in comments, emails, etc. I always begin my comments with a salutation, "Dear...."

After the given name, is a short description of my reader's own blog. Some of the following might not leave comments all the time. #13, The Queen of Swords, is my "real life" girlfriend Liz, and we talk to each other, so she rarely leaves comments anymore. And some of the following I should really visit more, and reciprocate the connection. We are our connections in cyberspace. If we "check comments" and see the same bloggers listed, chances are they are your "core group" of cyberfriends, who visit because they like what they read. I have been blessed with readers who return time and again, even though I might not even be commenting on their blogs. I really appreciate this.

Also would like to note that because this list is compiled by visits, a lot of my favorite readers are not here. I keep my blog like a "magazine" online, and create indexes, as mentioned. So sometimes a blogger might stop by only once in a while, and read lots of pages in one sitting, and then return in a month or so. I thank you all, who stop by and "read me like a book". WhenWordsCollide is a blog with a lot of words. My "critics" though they be few, always point out that there are "too many words" My readers take the time to read the words, and for this I thank you all, again and again.

20 josaju (Fran: Mostly protected posts, but she visits a lot, and never seems to be upset that I don't visit as much in return) 96 0.33 Apr 25.06 Feb 09.07

Now of course that I've done this, I realize that there are dozens more readers I'd love to single out. I'd love to present the whole list of 200 readers now that I've posted the first 20! I have left out so many. But this article is long enough as it is, and I'm only HALF FINISHED.

Top 20 page views on WhenWordsCollide

The following list is the top 30 page views since I installed the tracker. I listed 30 instead of 20 because as the leader of the Internet Island blogring, which now has it's own Xanga blog, a lot of Topic Posts are listed. I put them in Green to differentiate them from regular blog entries. Using this list, I am going back to the posts, and added tags, and updating links on the entries where they were broken, as on the MikeVideo internet movies posts. I have all the movies on YouTube now but used to have them on my server. Since WhenWordsCollide is a part of my main website, "AllThingsMike", While I love the Xanga "community", I also get lots of hits from search engines, and I like to make sure every page on my pretty large website "works" for every visitor.

Among the entries I wrote below, #3, which I recently updated, is almost always hit because of a Buddy Holly photo I published there. #4 is the 9/11 post on which I have two of my poems, but the reason why the page is #3 is because of the list of all the victims I posted. The page comes up whenever someone is searching for one of the victims of the tragedy. #9 is a surprise. It's from 2004, and is probably popular as a result of "Gumby" searches on the internet. #12 ONLY gets hits because of searches. It's a movie review of "Brokeback Mtn", from last year (a negative review, I might add) Xanga doesn't even list the reviews section anymore.

#13 and #21 are ElectricPoetry posts containing birthday poetry, and the are on the list because everyone always pops in on Beltane, May 1st, my birthday, to wish me greetings. #16 is a "This Just In" news analysis post, of which I should write more, but there's only so much time in a day, and I write many different kinds of themed entries. #18 was my "publicity stunt" I wanted to see if I made Featured with an article titled "I'm Naked on Xanga". It worked. I really have a photo of me naked, and it's current, not a joke photo. The remainder of the list has a mix of my MikeVideo Internet Movie announcement posts, Featured Grownups and Internet Island topic entries I write for the respective blogrings, and chapters from both "My Sexual History" series (#23,26,28) and "My Left Hip" (#27) the first of a series on medical operations I have had performed. Some of these pages are linked from AllThingsMike as well as the Xanga index. All are standing pages in the AllThingsMike Universe, and all are possibly worth a look. All the links work.

As I say, this "article" is actually a tool I will use in constructing my index, but it will also serve as the new week's first blog article. I shouldn't even enable "comments" for this entry, but who knows. I always love to get comments.

Comments (39)

  • Thanks for the recognition and kudos! I should really get more descript! Hugs, Mike!:coolman:

  • Wow, I hope you are a fast typer!  Something like that would take me a very long time to compose - and even longer to go back and correct all the typos!  : )

  • Composing a list of folks who you visit and converse with requires a good memory. In some ways I cheat on my remembering by reviewing some of the posts that I have done. In fact it is hard to keep track of some of my comments and I love to recycle some of my comments to others on various blogs.

One good thing about blogs is that they can be edited anytime. Unfortunately comments are only erased or have the coment followed by a retraction comment. I like blogs that allow the icon picture, it gives dept to the signature of a person, however the emoticons may be slightly superficial....

Does your blog have political clout? Well everything is political, but yes some blogs are too religious, too preachy or too dogmatic, but if done in a step by step way they can still be not as repulsive as some people make it out to be. Do I play diplomatic at times, yes but at times there is no going around the issues by being too pc.

Most likely I will run parallel worlds that intersect with yours. We'll see if we bump into each other said the blind men....

  • Thanks for the mention.  I'm surprised I rank as high as I do on that list, because I've been bad about pretty much everything lately.  I've been spending more time warping back to the high school drama of old friends that I have being an Internet goddess.  I love seeing familiar names on there - Zeal, Bob, Jeri.    Thanks for being another force bringing us together.  ... I would like to see a list of your "favorites."  It's always fun to meet new people when bloggers I really admire post some of their nearest and dearest.  Peace, Mike!

  • Hey Mike

I got your message and I am honored to have been mentioned in your blog.  That was nice of you.  I am in the process of writing you a longer email to catch up on a number of things.  I love this blog but creativity is something I have come to expect from you.  Hope you are well.

    Hugs
    Kat

  • Mike,

Thank you for the kind words. I enjoy your writing and will at any stage encourage others to read your Xanga. I am glad to see that I know at least half of the names on your list. We are in good company! Looking at your top page views it shows that the Internet Island has a lot of potential to attract traffic. Strangely enough I hope that I will move down on your list over time...not because I visit less but rather because of the addition of others that visit more!

Thank you for maintaining a high quality Xanga and for your hight quality comments. Although you might not be able to always visit you make every visit count by a well formulated comment.

  • What an interesting post! I like how you are lining them all out, etc. RYC on my xanga bug - Thanks! I was getting sick and tired of the bug stopping me, so I decided he now gets to represent Pickydom...at least until I whip out that can of XangaRaid and squash him forever. LOL Cheers!
