THE YEAR IN PICTURES 2006: An entry for the Internet Island Blogring Topic 20.01
When I posted the Photos of the Year 2005 Xanga entry on Jan. 4th, 2006, I had great plans for photography in 2006. When I got my widescreen flat monitor for the computer in late 2005, I could see that my 1.2 Megapixel still camera just wasn't outputting the resolution I need to show great photos on a good monitor, and I still have plans to upgrade to a Canon still camera that has a built in wide screen lens, and shoots 5 Megapixel photos, but in 2006 I still have the lower resolution camera. The first planned photo expeditions were to be along the coast of California and the series was to be called the Pacific Coast Highway series. It would have ended when I and Liz went to Monterey for my birthday in May. Then Liz broke her leg, I got embroiled in more money problems, and the upshot was that I didn't end up taking that many photos in 2006. I ended up spending most of my weekends at home trying not to spend money. Here are some of the photos from 2006, however. I don't think any of these have showed up on the blog before.
Moonshot: 2/9/2006. When I get a "real camera", hopefully this year, I should be able to take some more detailed moonshots. I did get a zoom lens this year, but the resolution is still not what I want.
Bob's Big Boy Restaurant: 2/12/06. This shot of the outside of one of the "new" Bob's Big Boy restaurants was included in one of the two Pacific Coast Highway folders on my Webshots Gallery.
Spike with Shining Eyes: 2/24/06. One of the shots of our cat Spike, taken with a flash in a dark room, highlighting her eyes.
Western Blvd. 3/12/06: I love cloudscapes, and early 2006 had lots of rain here in the Southland, which brought some neat cloudscapes throughout March. This is a wide angle shot, and you can see the outlines of the wide angle lens in the upper right and left hand corners. I rarely crop my photos, as I crop "in camera". Professionally, I would take out the evidence of the wide angle lens.
Banning Park: 3/18/06. A photo taken at the same time I shot my first "Video Blog" along Pacific Coast Highway. I like the root arrangement of this tree.
Self Portrait at Computer: 8/1/06. There wasn't much photographic activity until late summer. Here I am at my computer station in the media room. I took this with the remote instead of the self timer and you can plainly see the remote in my right hand.
Dreamcatchers: Knott's Berry Farm: 8/6/06. One of the excursions I and Liz did take in which I brought along my camera was to Knott's Berry Farm in August. This is a shot inside one of the shops selling Native American lore. Dreamcatchers, like clouds, are one of my "signature images" and dreamcatchers always show up on my Xanga profile pics.
Gemini Space Capsule: Aircraft Museum: Balboa Park: San Diego: 9/7/06. I shot this in one of the museums in Balboa Park when Liz and I visited San Diego in early September.
Horseless Carriage: Auto Museum: Balboa Park: San Diego 9/7/06: A lot of folks seemed to like the video of the auto museum from the San Diego Dreams MikeVideo. Here is a "Tourist" manufacuted in the ealry part of the 20th century, and I believe it was a one of a kind auto.
Museum of Man: Balboa Park: San Diego: 9/07/06. The last major photo excursion was the San Diego trip, and the last photo on this blogpost is another shot of the Museum of Man, which was the centerpiece building of the Pan American Exposition of 1917. This shot was taken in front of the Globe Theater.
Hopefully, I will get my 5 Megapixel camera (with wide angle lens) within a few weeks. I found one for less than $400.00 from Canon. I didn't feel too good about taking lots of shots in 2006 that I might have to duplicate later with the better camera. Hey, it's been quite a long time since I last visited your blog. Unless you remember my username, you probably wouldn't recognize my blog, it's undergone many asthetic and content changes. In other words, it looks better, but in all reality is probably more boring than before. I need to put more photography up, but haven't gotten around to it yet. You have some nice pics up, hopefully a new camera helps even more. Hehe, I remember eating at a Big Boy when I was really little, but I don't think there are anymore left around here. Anyway, nice post, hope to see more in the future.

I really love the dreamcatchers, that rooty tree, and the Big Boy. There are a couple of franchises out where I live. They were Frisch's when my family lived here 15 years ago and now they've removed that label and are just Big Boy for now.

I love the moon picture. I found in order to take a clear shot of the moon you definately need a good zoom lens and a tripod. I have neither. :wave:

Long time no "see." I'm sorry I haven't made it around here lately or on the internet island for that matter. I love the pictures. I love dreamcatchers as well and I got a new camera for x-mas, but probably not as good as yours. I took a picture of the moon, but it didn't turn out as good as yours.
