  Internet Island Topic Post #18.00: “The Songs of Our Lives”

  
  

  
  

  This is Internet Island Topic Post #18. Like last time, I’ll send ”announcement” comments to each and every Islander.  I got some positive feedback last time out, and the last topic generated 32 entries. Please note our new members which are listed at the bottom of this entry. The Island is now 130 members strong, and I’ve been very pleased with the responses to the topic posts.

  
  

   Please check the header at the top of my blog regularly for new participants in the current Topic Post, and please visit them and comment! I’d like to repeat myself here. Although the amount of topic entries has increased, I still doubt that a lot of Islanders read the other entries on a regular basis. Just like on the Featured Grownups blogring, if somebody writes a topic entry for Internet Island, I’d like to see their name among the comments of the other Islanders’ topic posts. There are many Islanders who regularly do this, but it isn’t enough relative to the membership!

  18.01 “The Songs of Our Lives”
  I’m inspired by the musical diversity I see all the time on Xanga amongst not only the sites to which I sub, and members of the Island blogring, but just by doing random searches. I’m playing a Led Zeppelin song on Jukebox This Week right now. A search of Xanga shows over 3500 listings for entries concerning Zep. If I type in Holy Modal Rounders, of course, I get this, but I’m not surprised.

  Well, I guess I don’t expect the common Xangan to know about a late 60s psychedelic folk art band. But everyone does know Zeppelin. I’ve read lots of music themed entries on Xanga, including the “lists of best albums”, albums you’d take along on a desert island (now I guess it’s what tunes your ipod has saved on it if you get “Lost”), and defining moments in musical history.

  
  

  Did I say “album”? From vinyl to cd to mp3 song track, music defines us and describes us. Create for me your “soundtrack”. What are the songs in your life, and why do you keep putting them on the turntable, er, I mean, punching them in the ipod.  

  
  

  18.02  Entertainment Complex: I,ve always been a great fan of home audio and video. So much so that I’ve purchased lots of now defunct gear, and have shelves full of movies and songs that I can’t watch or play. I’d like to know about your entertainment set up at home, in the dorm, or your car. What are your must have accessories when playing the soundtrack to your life? Extra points for photos.

  
  

  18.03 Island Talent Contest: Write a song. Sing a song. (utilzing Xanga Video.) Pretend you’re on American Idol. I know there are some creative and talented folks on the Island. Let’s put on a show!

  
  

  18.04 I’m With the Band:  Anybody have any backstage stories? How about a giving a short history of your concertgoing experiences, or blog about one exciting evening. Write about the time you roadied for Michael Bolton. Sure it’s embarrassing. Let it all hang out!
