Internet Island Topic Post 5.02
NEW INTERNET ISLAND TOPIC POST COMING UP SOON!
Either later today or tomorrow morning I will create a new Topic Post for the Internet Island. In the meantime, I would like all "active" members who see this post to try to accomplish a few things before the next post.
Since the Topic Posts last for roughly two weeks, some entries get less comments and visits simply because they are posted late during the period. I usually don't even post my entry until after the first week has passed. Please GO TO THE LATEST POST and see if there are at least three blogs you haven't visited yet from this post. Please visit those blogs, especially if you have not visited them before. Read the "topic entry" and their latest entry, and COMMENT on both the topic entry and their latest entry. (You don't have to leave two comments. Leave your comment on the latest entry.
I try to make it a point to visit and comment on ALL of the topic entries for each post, no matter how late they are posted. I just commented on two recent entries in the last hour. One of the most important reasons for the existence of the Internet Island blogring is for interaction among the "islanders." The topic posts themselves are just "ice breakers." I have mentioned in blogposts and in comments that I haven't been too "active" as regards blogging (both writing entries and leaving comments) lately, but I do try to make a point to viist each blogring topic entry, and I would hope that all Islanders do the same. From 58 comments on my last Topic Post, there should at least be half of that number in comments on any one entry. So this is a chance for you to "catch up" with the last topic post before I put up a new one.
I was going to post this entry without comments, but I will open comments just in case you want to say anything about this. All other blogrings are composed of people with a common purpose or interest. The Internet Island is composed of different types of bloggers who are united in the fact that we are human, here on Xanga, and blogging. I didn't start this for "featured content" or anything like that, but I would like to see more than four or five comments on the topic entries on each topic post.
Another thing I would like "active islanders" to do is to go to the Blogring list and find three sites which you have not visited. Visit those sites and introduce yourselves. I don't usually "apologize" in entries for not being "active" but I myself have been blogging less this year than in 2004 or 2005 because I don't want to get burned out. The kind of comments I usually leave take a while to write, and I read a lot before I comment, so I was taking a lot of time. I'm trying to find ways to stay active and still not spend three or four hours a day blog surfing. Who knows, in a couple of days I might WANT to surf blogs for more than four hours or so, but right now that is not the case.
I do want to keep the blogring a fun place, and I'm constantly "approving " new members. I cannot tell who is "leaving" but I do know who is "joining". So welcome to new members. Keep on the lookout for the new topic post, and in the meantime, see if you can comment on at least three blogs from the last topic post that you haven't seen, I would be appreciative.

I know it seems wierd to apologize for not blogging when I never intended for it to be a dialy thing but when I don't let people know that I am just taking some time then they all email me all upset about why I haven't been online. LOL It is easier to put in a short blog. Then they all email me as to what is wrong. I appreciate the friendships though. LOL Yes that picture of David is a pencil one that I did almost ten years ago. He is not 6 '2" tall and about 220 lbs. He has grown up fast. I am off to visit some people per your request. I don't do that enough

Last time I read EVERY single entry and tried to leave a comment for everyone, too, although there were very few acknowledgements of that. I think 3 should about do it!

RYC: Yes, WCP pays it's contributors for accepted e-books. The standard rate is 37% royalties. We pay 40% royalties. We're also changing our pay rates for the magazine to be a li'l better than it was. Things are looking up!
I'm starting to finally feel better, btw.
And as for my last ex, yes, he was/is nuts. Me and the kids put up with a lot of abuse. They won't have anything to do with him. Even now, he still reigns over us with fear, but it's getting better, we're learning to keep that stuff in the past.

RYC: You published everyday, you just don't sell it, you give it away. Actually there's more to the publishing business then advances. An author is given an advance because he/she has sold the right, first rights to the publication. In legal terms an advance is called "Consideration" because you've given something of value and have to have something of value in return. That right could be in the form of rights to a hardcover printing or paperback printing. Yes they are separate. Also when you sell your rights to your material, sometimes if you're not careful you are also selling away your rights to things like movie deals. Self-publishing isn't Vanity Press. There's a difference; with Vanity you are paying someone to publish your work, and sometimes your rights are given away with the work. Self publishing means that you retain all your rights (Standard Copyright license) to the work and you do all the heavy lifting marketing, selling editing, formatting, cover selection artwork everything! So yes, if you decide you want to sell your work, keep abreast of what I put on my site, it will be filled with all the pitfalls, revelations et al of this electronic book selling venture.
