Snow is glittering on the ground
Deers are happy, food they've found
Children watch the tree brought round
And Christmas is round the corner.

    Stars are shining brighter tonight
Gleaming far with their heavenly light
The world becomes such a pretty sight
When Christmas is round the corner.

    The Lord looks down
    Upon His Creation
    The beautiful Child

    His eyes are shining
    Heart is joyful
    Hands are mild

    God is waiting
    His Son will grow
    To free the world

    Radiance becomes unfolded
    On the day when Christ
    Became

How the heralds sing their praises
    We shall do the
    Very same

    Christmas is white
    Snow fell on the mountains
    All through the night

    Christmas is green
    The house smells luscious
    When the tree's brought in

    Christmas is blue
    The sky is brilliant
    Through and through

    Christmas is red
    Memories recounting glory
    Of the One who bled

    Christmas is love
    And we will worship
    Our God above

    "A Christmas Poem"
    Poetry by Michael F. Nyiri

    Merry Christmas...
    During the holiday,
We look upon the vast expanse
    Which we have called life

    Everybody recites jingle bells
While in their hearts rests a dirge

But isn't it great we can face the
    Holidays with blithe spirit?
Happy is really only a word
But we'll treat it as an experience

At least until Christmas is over.

It's too bad Santa Claus died
    When we grew up
    Because that forlorn Christmas tree
Will never have the presents it did
    When we were young

No matter how insignificant they were.

    At this time of year
We wish vehemently to be closer
    To other people
So we can all enjoy the Christmas feast
    together.
    But we won't be--really...
       So I'll eat my dinner
       And look at my tree
    And think of you
    And of the world
    Hallelujah!

    Listen to the happy children
    Ecstatic voices
    Open the door and smile
    Listen to some music
    Write a poem
    My world

    Sleighbells in the mind
    A wonderful large tree
    Adorned with love
    Quite a few people
    Endowed with spirit
    Your world

    I long for your world

A bright beacon of hope shines off the
    shimmering shrinkwrap adorning a new
package of lined but unworded writing
    paper.

A new year, replete with with same
beacon, always shines into my head
with the urge to write, & let that
    writing contain Urgent messages to
    The world at large.

By & by I have questioned myself while
    deluding my existence and knowing
how I could rise above my anxieties.

    I might have accomplished this.

If the accomplishment can be borne
into the written word then a
true accomplishment will have been made.

    Let's see now.........
       where to begin.

The last poem isn't really a "Christmas poem" but it was written on Dec. 27th, 1982, as part of a "post Christmas" spontaneous poetry exercise. Merry Christmas to all my Xanga readers and friends, once again, and may your day be filled with wonder and kindness. MFN 12/25/05

  • hey mike, i hope your christmas is a good one. i think the best christmas is the one that takes place in our imagination. only good things happen there and we're not alone. i like all your poems, especially "a christmas poem". take care, charlie

  • Merry Christmas, Mike!!  I hope you are having a wonderful day!!  I enjoyed your poems, as usual!!  I just finished updating my post, when you commented ... so I have to fill you in on another Christmas miracle.  Two years ago, my parents gave me two envelopes of money for my sons.  I swore I put them in one of my bags, but later the envelopes were nowhere to be found.  I thought they were long lost ... probably gone with the trash.  I even accused my mom of not really giving the envelopes to me (shame on me!)  Today, my niece was opening her gift from me when she pulls out two envelopes from the gift bag ... it was the money from two years ago!!  I'm just lucky that my niece got that particular recycled gift bag rather than someone else!!  Needless to say, my boys are thrilled ... Thanks for your continued friendship and I look forward to many more comments throughout the new year!!  Love, Alicia

  • Your poems remind me of childhood dreams.  Christmas is always nice for Children.  We grow up way too fast.

  • i watched a show last night that reminded me of you. There were references to "toys of the past" in the sitcom. A specific fortune telling toy which was like the 8 ball but different was used.
hope you had a great day, a merry christmas.

  • You have a magical way with words!  Many blessings to you.  I hope your Christmas was wonderful and joyous and filled with special memories both new and old.

  • My beautiful mother...^^^ I love her to bits.

I was just looking at your profile pic and thinking "Hmm...he'd make a nice Jolly Ol' Saint Nick". You could recite your poetry to little children who'd sit in your lap. :giggle::lol:

How did you celebrate your Xmas? I'm going to be so old in 3 hours. Bye bye youth, hello menopause!

  • Oh oops...when I said my beautiful mother, I was pointing at DaBombMom615. :heartbeat:

  • Hi Mike,

Your poetry is wonderful, as usual. I hope that you had a very wonderful Christmas.

  • :sunny:Merry Christmas Mike...Thank you for these words..and your presence in blogworld in general!

  • Dear Mike,

It was great spending time with you this day. I truly enjoyed my time out, and actually once home I ended up going to sleep ... go figure.

As for your poems, I like the images used in some of them ... yet it is true that during these times we tend to yearn for a certain closeness that doesn't seem to exist. But, like they said at the Mass ... the Christmas spirit should be a year round thing, and not put away with the tree and decorations!

    Love,
    Liz :littlekiss:

  • Merry Christmas Mike.  Hope you had a wonderful day.

  • I like the "post" Christmas one best! But as always - they are all wonderful!

  • Merry Christmas Mike.  Your poetry is light hearted and I do appreciate that.  As for "Christmas IV, our Christmas is green, red poinsettias, red hollyberries and a blue sky.  No white snow for us.  When we lived "up north" the snow was usually grey and dirty or...icy.  It was pretty when it first fell but the beauty of the fresh fallen snow soon deterioated.

    :sunny:

  • I kept my promise and read The Christmas Story, a few blogs down.  No time to read the cards this morning.  You'll know why when you read my other comment.  Season's Greetings to you and Liz.

  • Christmas

    Christmas is a tree,
    topped by a star,
    Christmas is a candle
    sending light out far,
    Christmas is Santa
    with his bag of toys,
    Christmas is many
    other Christmas joys.

  • Oh, yeah I forgot, I wrote that poem when I was nine.

  • To my attention the whole thing you utter can be extraordinary
