Time for another Exciting PhotoPost. This week I'm featuring some of the many photos taken last weekend in downtown Los Angeles, on my subway trip a few weeks ago, and the other night's sunset, plus the photo that inspired the background for the InternetSerendipity blog.
Here we have the contemplation garden at the now shuttered St. Vibiana's Cathedral, shot through the locked gate. I featured a similar shot with cobwebs from the other gate on the InternetSerendipity site on Monday.
This is the cathedral shot from the sidewalk getting a parking meter in view, so it becomes one of my "signature shots", from the ground, with something else besides the subject as a framing device. This doesn't really show the complete Cathedral, but it isn't supposed to.
Downtown Los Angeles is being "revitalized" and there is buiding and destruction everywhere. This is a parking garage stairway, exposed to the elements. You can see the grafitti two floors up by clicking on the photo to get it's full size in another browser window.
Here is the southwest corner of the new CalTrans building. Another view was on InternetSerendipity on Monday's Photopost. I actually like this view better than the "head on" building shots.
Here we are inside the Bradbury building. I might have featured this photo or one of the others in the series back on my Subway trip posts. I love the interior of this building, used as a movie backdrop many times.
An artwork in the courtyard of the Museum of Contemporary Art, also from my Subway expedition downtown last month.
"It's a twister". This almost painterly photo of the sky above the street where I live, shot last week right before a thunderstorm, almost looks like the sky is spiraling.
Here is a sunburst shot through clouds late one afternoon a couple of weeks ago after an all day rainstorm. Below is the same shot, tweaked a bit in the Picture Publisher Program, and then used as the background for InternetSerendipity.
One last shot. Shot from outside Hollenbeck park in East Los Angeles early in the year. This is the quintessential Los Angeles photo. The only thing missing is a homeless person. We've got the towers of Bunker Hill "waaaay" in the background, some beautiful palm trees, a freeway (part of the 5 interchange, in case you're interested) and a graffitti covered sign on a telephone pole. The sky is blue, and the smog is just tolerable. A beautiful lasting image of my home town, albeit seen from a different perspective.

I really like the Caltrans one for some reason.
Breathtaking photos. You are spoiling us. Do you *ever* take a bad picture?
Michael,
Lol, I agree with twoberry. Always brilliant, always a delight. I really like the contrast of the last one, it's really striking.

Absolutely great shots, Mike. From the keyhole view of paradise, to what looks like Beirut, to that tornado of a sunset. Just great stuff!

RYC: Love ya dearly, Mike, but have to completely disagree (remember Toad's mood
I'm worn down with everyone making excuses for our young generation. There are wonderful exceptions, but for the most part they are the most pampered, self-indulgent group we've seen in our history. A draft would be nothing but a help to them.
Global warming is now nothing but a political issue. Until it is no longer such, we'll never know what's down the road.
These are great photos. You do art photos. I can only manage to get memory photos.. with people posed in them. LOL But that works for me. I'll come here to see art.
