This Just In:
“You know, I don’t know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he (Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez) thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war, and I don’t think any oil shipments will stop.
We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don’t need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”
….Pat Robertson, 75 year old televangelist, ex-Presidential candidate, and supposed “Christian”.
We’ve all heard about this by now. Pat Robertson is one of my roommate’s favorite television personalities only because of the crazy things he sometimes says on his television program, “The 700 Club”. A lot of people, pundits, and media folk were rightfully shocked and upset about Pat’s statements on Monday’s edition of his show. A lot of bloggers have already weighed in with an opinion. Jesus advocated “turning the other cheek.” And Robertson certainly resembles the antichrist Bush in some of his photos. We’re having a “Crusade” in Iraq (Bush’s words, remember?) Now the religious right is advocating murder.
Yesterday, when questioned about his comments, Robertson developed a bit of dementia, and denied making them. (I always love it when they do that, which flies in the face of the recordings). Then he stated: “I didn’t say ‘assassination.’ I said our special forces should ‘take him out, ‘Take him out’ could be a number of things including kidnapping.”
Rambo knows what “take him out” really means.

Probably 90 percent of the American populace doesn’t know (or care) who Hugo Chavez is. The popular President of Venezuela is a pretty vocal critic of Bush and American foreign policy. He has claimed in the past that America is planning to topple his government and possibly plot his assasination. What is particularly riling about all this is what Robertson said about “covert operatives”. I immediately thought of the banana republics, Guatemala in particular, back in the 50s, when the “free” government of Jacobo Arbenz was toppled in a CIA sponsered coup signed into action by John Foster Dulles and President Eisenhower to further United Fruit’s interest in the region. They branded Arbenz a “communist”, an all purpose ploy back in the 50s to label anyone not “agreeing” with our policies so as to immediately incapacitate them. I’m sure a lot of folks today have forgotten, or don’t even know about the history of the United Fruit company (Now Chiquita Banana) and what those little “banana” icons on the “National products” maps REALLY meant in the country of Guatemala.
“WE” have a history of protecting our multinational interests in the central and South American countries. It helps to know that Venezuela is the fifth largest oil producing country in the world, and that Hugo Chavez was in Cuba with “communist dictator” Fidel Castro. Our State Department called Robertson’s remarks “inappropriate.” Robertson just wants to champion the status quo, and he doesn’t want to see another costly war.
I could detail the history of our involvement in the nations south of our borders, and that might be the subject of a future blog entry. In the meantime, here is a neat link. about United Fruit, albeit it is a bit one sided.
Glad you really didn’t mean you wanted the guy assasinated, Pat. I know you’re still upset about the “rampant secularism” that is destroying this country, so why not target anyone who is an “enemy of the State”.
Jesus wept.

If you click the Walid link you’ll see more stuff by him…it’s amazing what kind of talent you run across when something newsworthy breaks:sunny: As you can see…some research went into that post today…well, more googling, because like you i grew up with trilaterist and Illuminati paranoia:lol:
The GREATEST thing about Robertson though, is he is REVEALING the real thought process of the cash fundamentalists:fun: BTW…ever heard of *The CIA Bulletin*:wha:
And oh how He wept. I don’t understand how the Christian Coalition and Right Wing bullshitters can think that they are doing the will of God. I do not presume to be too much better, but I do not assume so much power. Pat Robertson makes “real” Christians look so bad!
well hello there…..yes i am back……but to be honest i may not update every day…..then again i might…….*smiles……and sometimes pat let his mouth overload his butt……..but then again this is the same man who has decided that spongebob squarepants is homosexual and needs to be drowned…..as was tinky winky of teletubbie fame because he carried a purse….hmmm…..yep ole pat is a little on the loony side….me thinks the man protests to much….:sunny: ~froggie
Pat’s gotten even more feeble-minded than ever, hasn’t he?
(and Mike… thanks, sweetie, your comments have so endeared you to me!)
Hia Mike,
Love today’s post, so cool!:coolman: What a crazy world we live in, eh? I also just now signed up with your Electric Poetry Group, waiting for approval. Take care…
take care,
paulygrl:sunny:
i heard that robertson quote on the radio this morning.
give the guy a break, though, after all he said he was frustrated.
pshaw.
Don’t forget about ‘anti-commie’ operations Panama, Nicaragua or El Salvador either. Ah Firing Squads, Noriega, perpetual civil wars in Central America, those were the days.
Mexico’s decision to privatize their petroleum industries in the 20s when no americans really gave a shit about oil was a good move on their part.
Great post! And thanks for the link to United Fruit. It may be one sided but it’s more than I knew to begin with.
omg.
Blessed are the peacemakers- because they will be called the sons of God..
Shalom from Israel
Hi Mike,
First off, I need to let you know that for some weird reason, my Mac at home won’t allow me to post comments on your site. I can log into it OK, I just can’t go to the comments page. I’m not a comp nerd so I don’t understand why this is so.
You’ve had some wonderful poetry up around two-three weeks ago that I wanted to comment on, but I was spending more time outside my office and wasn’t able to do so. I do enjoy your commentary posts, as well as your pic posts. The Cathy poems you have at the bottom of the current page are great. But my favorite one follows the nymph poem, I believe it’s titled: “The Truth Will Out.” I relate to that poem more than you could imagine, and wish I’d written it myself. But I write what I write for whatever reason I do. I don’t try to understand the process… I simply accept it.
Secondly, this is a well thought out commentary. Pat is a NUT! Enough said.
It’s great to be back in the office after all this time and leave you a note. I do appreciate your checking up on me, and I enjoy reading your comments. If you have any suggestions about my Mac 10.2, feel free to offer up some advice. Take care.
Peace.
Did you just put the music on your site? If not, then it finally came through on my server! LOL, I like it!

Hello Mike,
This whole thing with Robertson made me laugh , weird reaction maybe, I think it was from shock. I can’t beleive he calls himself a Christain. And isn’t he doing a great job spreading God’s word? He should leave the politics out of his religious, or thats what I thought it was supposed to be, program.
The pictures are comical. I hear many say of Chavez that he is either loved or hated by the Venezuelans and has made improvements there. I also heard he beleives in communism . And how old is Fidel anyway? I remember him from forever.
I liked you blog . as for my comment about your profile pic, that is the pic I was referring to. You look like your are in deep thought. Thanks for stopping by , Mike.
Good last words above ‘ Jesus Wept’
Peace and Love:)
Very unique site! I love it!
We chinese know Hugo Chavez ,lol.
Shouldn’t Pat Robertson be in a nursing home by now? Or just another ‘fundamentalist Christian’ blowing it out of his ear?! Glad you left a comment, I corrected the mistake-lol-thank you for catching the error. I took the picture down, as I would like to post them in protected. Much to my dismay, I found I could only put 8 people in protected, as I don’t have premium. Need to click the link, and read your Vietnam poem yet. Thank you for stopping by my site!
