  • PhotoPost: After the Storm

    • The downed tree from yesterday morning. I increased the brightness of the shot in my Picture Publisher program, but since it was so dark you can't really see that much. Interestingly enough, the tree was almost completely cleaned up by the time I got home, but it sure looked surreal lying across the road, destined for extiction by Mother Nature.

    • On the other hand, the day yesterday was glorious, a brief respite before another storm hit last night. These shots were taken about 1pm after lunch. Since I had taken my camera with me for the tree shot, I kept it in the car all day, and shot this and the shot below from a parking lot in the business park where I work. The photo above was taken with the wide angle lens.

    • Above is a rare shot of Los Angeles from the top of Signal Hill, next to Long Beach. Whenever the winds blow the smog away, and of course with all the rain lately, the sky is being "cleansed" of the smog for a bit, the next day is usually glorious, and yesterday was no exception. I love the look of the storm cloud immediately above the cityscape, and this is another reason why I've got to save enough to get me a 2x telephoto, which would have made this photo a lot better.

    • Almost shooting into the sun on Signal Hill at around 3:30pm. I got a few shots of the oil pump (in the 20s and 30s these things littered most of the Long Beach, Signal Hill area) but thought this the most dramatic photo.

    • Shot at 3:30pm after I got off work, on top of Signal Hill Park, with the wind blowing fairly briskly, as you can tell from the palm fronds. This shot is with the wide angle lens. I was trying to get the "feel" of the wind blowing. I haven't uploaded the rest of the shots to my Webshots Gallery yet, but will probably do so this weekend.

  • that last pic is my fav...how's it going out there anyway? all i keep hearing is that you guys are getting drenched!

ryc: i have no idea where it came from...i was writing in my journal and listening to some music and it just came out.  it was like i shut myself off for a minute and just started writing.  Everything i have been feeling came out exactly the way i wanted it to. It was weird, but wonderful at the same time.  That poem you mentioned was great, by the way...i love the helicopter blade and the imagery you conjured up..excellent :)

  • Hi Mike.  It is tough for me to comment on your site sometimes, because my pc at home is a hunk of junk...so when i go to pages with a lot of scripts on them..I crash...but I read you faithfully in my subscriptions...where it is safer for my poor little pc.  I appreciate your comments and the fact that you enjoy my poetry.  It means a lot to me.  As for the sadness, I have come farther than I ever thought I would..and I still move a little bit away from it each day, but a broken heart is a tough thing to heal.  I am keeping my "eye" on the horizon  wink  hugs  ~jacki

  • Great photos.  I like the one without the smog.  I can almost hear the city breathing deeply.   ha.  Surely things will settle down soon in the rain department.  If not, build a boat and start paddling.

  • Heck man you should be a photojournalist. This is fantastic, like our own special news report.

  • Nice photos!  And thanks for your helpful comments on my site!  Have a great day, Michael!

  • Clear span outdoor tent: There is no central pole, which means uninterrupted space within the.

  • It's just that you are predestined not to be the lead dog on that particular old joke.
