PHOTOPOST with pictures taken at the L.A.County Arboretum in June 2004
Here are some photos I have stored in my Webshots Gallery of the L.A. Arboretum, or "Tree Museum" located in Arcadia, California. There are about 100 photos in the Gallery. My first trip to the Arboretum was in high school on a field trip, and I fell in love with the place. This is where the television show "Fantasy Island", and the 30s Johnny Weismuller "Tarzan" movies were filmed.
I included some shots of the famous "Queen Anne's Cottage" which are also in the Gallery, on a post here on my Xanga blog back in June. The photo above was shot in the "Greenhouse" where the orchids and hothouse flowers are kept.
As I entered an area where a lot of bamboo was planted, a couple was wandering out of the area. They pointed to the entrance from inside the bamboo, and suggested that I take a photo toward the entrance, which I did, and which can be seen above.
However, when the couple was walking out of the area, I shot the photo above, silhouetting them against the sun. I think this is the better photo stylistically. The Arboretum was recently in the news, because the city hired a new director, who is striving to bring the tourists back to visit. Although there were plenty of folks walking around when I visited in June. The staff had to be cut back over the years, and the place is more "wild" than it used to be, but that adds to it's mystique.
I can't leave a photo series about the L.A. Arboretum without showing at least one peacock. The place is famous for it's over 450 peacocks which roam the park, and sometimes hop over the fence and bother the neighbors. Peacocks have a very shrill "call" and can get annoying. The photo above is of a peahen in a tree by the restaurant where I was enjoying a sports drink after exhausting myself walking over the park, which is fairly large. I really enjoy all the large parks and public flower gardens we have in the greater Los Angeles area, which sometimes, but not quite, makes me feel I'm not in the middle of a rather large urban city.

There is nothing like green growth whether it be in a pot or in a park. There is something about growing things that make you realize there must be a higher being somewhere at least it does that for me. Your photos are lovely and the exotic nature of them makes them very special.
When I first came into Xanga, I was reading a blog somewhat regularly and she wrote concerning a pet peacock that had escaped and was roaming the neighborhood. I don't know where it was but your entry recalled it for me and I wonder if it ever made it back to where it belonged.

I like the photo with the peacock...I love peacocks...mostly when the male dances for the female performing a love dance ... trying to conqueror her heart(???)...do you know that hindus say that in the feathers of the male peacock are reflected all the colours of the universe ????
