In 1999, when I created the AllThingsMike website, one of the "sections" would deal with my online "lovesearch". As a "perpetually" single guy, who keeps getting older, I thought that the internet for sure would be able to slake my thirst for the "kiss that lasts forever", that seemingly unattainable (at least for me) true romantic coupling with another person. I felt, with the global power of the internet to connect humanity, that I would certainly find "the other half to my whole", the "girl in dreams", the love of my life. I posted quite a few "personal ads" on the net, and waited for the emails to fill my inbox. Now, looking back almost five years, this little adventure, which eventually cost me thousands of dollars, seems somewhat like a grand mistake, a yearning which remained a yearning, and yet, the "story" is told on the Lovesearch section of the AllThingsMike website. The section originally heralded the search, and then, after three unsuccessful "searches" it became a "tale" of my exploits. This is another "lost section" of the website, which has not been updated in years, but contains my "lovesearch diary" written in September 1999 in Nantucket, MA, where I flew for the first "connection", with Maria, which didn't work out, and also the website I created for Regina, my "connection" from the second lovesearch in 2000. My "connection" with Maria missed, partly because she was married, and still living with her husband. Regina and I actually started a life together, but she felt uprooted when she moved to Long Beach, and she had quite a bit of money problems. Probably the best thing about our relationship was it's ending. The third lovesearch netted a couple of email correspondents, but I never again made a "connection" as I felt I had with Maria and Regina. The sad fact of these "connections" are that they didn't really "connect". No matter how many emails and phone calls are given and received, two people cannot be "together" when separated by physical distance, especially if they have never met. A lot of the debt I piled up over the past few years was owed to the lovesearch, because to me, "money was no object" when searching for true love. I don't feel "true love has passed me by" however, and since I didn't attempt to make a "connection" with the third search, I feel that I tried a good bit to see if I could, like others I have read about, find love on the internet. I still believe strongly in "fate", "kismet", or "serendipity", and perhaps my "other half" reads me now, as I have wanted her to read me for ages.

Since my divorce, I have delved into the world of online dating...and it has been like a bad acid trip. If that is the only way I can find a man, I will just give up. :whocares:
I've heard a lot of horror stories about online romances, but I also know people who have truly found their soul mates. eHarmony.com seems to be the best for really matching up personalities and values. Not a bad place to start and not doomed to failure the way chat rooms seem to be.

I'm so sorry about your bad past experiences. Even though I've never been involved in a relationship with someone I've known just solely from the internet and on other way, I've still had my share of bad past relationships with people I've known only in real life.
So, either way, a person can still end up having a bad relationship.
I do believe most things happen for a reason though, and if two people are meant to be together, it just all works out some way in the long run.

i will say this, soulmates do exist. Sometimes, the one you seek is so close, that you cannot focus on them. then one day realization hits you like a lightening bolt. and if things are where they should be, the same thing will happen for the other person too. this is what happened between my soulmate and myself. we practically tripped over each other, our old friendship grew and blosomed into what we'de both been seeking all our lives: the other half to our souls.
