(EDIT: Wednesday August 4th: I am going to add another photo or two to this section instead of adding another entry today since I already have two entries for the 4th. I'll be adding some more photos tomorrow, but wanted to post the URL for the latest photos in the San Pedro Section of my Webshots site, "San Pedro: Small Town America in Lost Angeles" )
On my July 29th entry I presented some photographs taken in "Old Downtown Torrance" that I have displayed in my Webshots Gallery. Yesterday I took my camera to Court, and during an hour or so we had for a "break" before going in to listen to more evidence, I roamed 6th Street and snapped a few photos for my "Small Town America in Lost Angeles" project. The area around the courthouse is not "busy" at all, but at one time was one of the main parts of town, back when San Pedro was a bustling harbor community. A lot of this activity in the early days had to do with the fact that San Pedro and Long Beach were Navy towns, and Harbor towns. The Naval base disappeared a while back, and cargo ships are unloaded with large cranes nowadays, but some of the old buildings survive, and although I'm taking the camera in again today, and haven't downloaded most of the photos into the puter yet, I'll post a couple here off the first memory stick, which only holds about 15-20 photos. I took over 50 shots yesterday.
This is a shot looking West on 6th Street toward the old Warner Grand Theater, which is going to be reopened soon, I understand. Not a lot of "single theaters" left in L.A. Multiplexes are the order of the day usually.
Here's just an old Jewelry Sign on the outside of one of the downtown buildings. I also did get some "moon shots" this full moon, but I need a telephoto lens in order to take some photos with more clarity. I get a lot of hits on the "Moonshots" folder on Webshots, and I admit I don't have any real "stunning" shots, because I don't seem to get the photos when the sky is light enough, and there are clouds about. Either the sky is completely clear, or completely overcast. Here is one I shot two nights ago.
Due to the fact I am using the "digital zoom" on the videocamera portion of the camera, this closeup is as sharp as I can get it. With a true telephoto, I'll be able to get "closer", and someday, the plan is to get an actual telephoto lens attachment, but until then, this is as good as I get.
Well, the little clock at the right of the computer screen tells me it's past time to go to work. I know there's one panel to be tested today, and I have to finish a master document control folder, then off to Court to hear second day of evidence for the Defense.
(EDIT: 8/4/04. Here is another photo from the second memory stick. I love ole "single screen" theaters, since there aren't many left. This weekend I plan to go out to Bellflower and maybe Monrovia, both towns who are preserving their "Main Streets" as they "were". )
